In a two week period at random intervals I collected tweets from Twitter that contained links to photo sharing services such as twitpic.com, TweetPhoto and yfrog. I collected just short of 1.5 million tweets during this my inital collection period. I then analysed each image to see whether or not it contained EXIF data within the file. If so, I extracted the device make, model, software and if present a GPS reading. I'm in the process of contacting each Twitter user now to see whether or not they intentionally knew that this data was present when sharing the photo online. I'm interested in the total number of users who were not aware their location was provided the a third party service.
The total number of images used in this statistical analysis is 2,197,931. The table and charts below visualise the data that I've derived from this analysis.
